Claim refund or compensation

A ‘no-show’ means that you do not turn up for a flight you have booked. The airline will therefore record that you have not taken up your seat. This may affect subsequent flights in the same booking, depending on the terms and conditions of the ticket and the regulations of the relevant country.

  • Meaning: Failure to turn up for a booked flight

  • Relevant to: Booking confirmation, stopovers and return journey

  • Regulations: The terms and conditions of the ticket and the rules of the country governing the agreement

What does ‘no-show’ mean for your flight?

If you do not use your outbound ticket, you should contact the airline as soon as possible to confirm that your return journey is still included in the booking. If you are nevertheless denied boarding for this reason, you should lodge a complaint with the airline immediately.

If you fail to board the flight yourself, this does not in itself entitle you to compensation for a flight delay or cancellation. However, if you missed a connecting flight because the first flight was delayed, this is a different situation. Read about your rights in the event of a missed connecting flight.

A flight is cancelled because airspace is closed due to an ash cloud from a volcanic eruption. This constitutes force majeure. Passengers are not entitled to compensation, but are entitled to a refund or rebooking, as well as meals whilst waiting.
