Your EU rights in the event of a Lufthansa strike

Did you know that passengers on flights to or from the EU are protected by EU Regulation 261? This means that you as a passenger can claim compensation if your trip is delayed or canceled due to internal strikes.
EU 261 protects you if your flight was canceled with less than 14 days' notice or if a delay causes more than 3 hours of delayed arrival. You only need a confirmed reservation for your flight to be eligible.

When can't I get compensation from Lufthansa during a strike?

You are not entitled to compensation if the delay or cancellation is due to:

  • External strikes, like airport security or baggage handlers.
  • Extraordinary circumstances where the airline has no control over the situation.

In these cases, however, the following rights still apply:

  • Right to rebook or refund of ticket.
  • Entitlement to meals, accommodation and transportation during longer delays.

We can guide you through your options, even if compensation is not an option.
